The clouds and rain that marred Sunday's event were banished, to the delight of crowds.

The Metropolitan Police said there were no gun incidents during the carnival's first day.

But there were two stabbings, which resulted in minor injuries. One person was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

Chiet Insp Edwards said the festival went "smoothly and to plan".

He added: "People seem to have heeded the warnings to come to carnival to have fun, but not to cause trouble."

A total of 150 people were arrested over the two-day festival, including 18 on suspicion of possessing class A drugs.

Police in Luton seized three kilograms of cannabis from two cars stopped on the way to the carnival.
London Ambulance Service said it treated 181 people for minor injuries and 26 people were taken to hospital for treatment.

The first Notting Hill Carnival was held in 1964.

Organisers estimate five tonnes of chicken and 25,000 bottles of rum were consumed at this year's event
Some 16,000 records were played at 41 different sound systems located within the carnival area.
